Game 24 - Columbus 6, Leafs 0 - Abysmal performance leads to a blowout

The Leafs had their worst performance of the season to date against Columbus, and were duly punished for it, handily beaten 6-0.

Two quick Blue Jacket goals midway through the first period pulled them into a lead they'd never relinquish, and Toronto generated only two more chances before Columbus extended their lead to four midway in the second.

Toronto's scoring chance drought continued in the third, as they again generated only two chances, while watching Columbus add another pair of goals.

The eight chance deficit at even strength was one of the worse performances of the season, but not nearly as bad as their performance in Chicago. The real problem was the Leafs' inability to produce chances, as they had only 5 overall, their lowest of the season (they had fewer at ES in the first Minnesota game, though).

A summary of the scoring chances:

1 2 5 2 5
2 1 6 1 5
3 2 7 2 3

No surprise that there aren't a lot of positives for the Leafs on a night like this, but there were two players who had positive nets, as they didn't face a single ES chance while on, in the regular checking line players McClement and Kulemin. Mason Raymond was the only other forward better than -1, a sad state of affairs. Joffrey Lupul, who left injured in a familiar story, was the worst of the forwards, not on for a single Leafs chance. Both Tyler Bozak and Nazem Kadri both struggled at centre ice as well.

A rare decent game from Cody Franson, who was even, as was Dion Phaneuf. The disasters were Rielly and Fraser, each a game-low -6.

Wisniewski and Murray were excellent on the back line, not facing a single chance against, while both on for 8 chances for. Letestu, Prout, Umburger and Skille were all +4s, the next best showings. There was one negative player, as Jack Johnson managed to be on the ice for four of Toronto's five chances.

Players with nice chance numbers:
Toronto - Jay McClement, Nikolai Kulemin
Columbus - James Wisniewski, Ryan Murray, R.J. Umburger

Players with poor chance numbers:
Toronto - Mark Fraser, Morgan Rielly, Joffrey Lupul
Columbus - Jack Johnson
